  1. Who are the Kansas City Bettys really?

We are everyday women and this is our Christian ministry.

We love our country and support our veterans and troops.

We resemble the women on the "Homefront" and the "USO Girls and Shows" of the 1940s WWII era. WE ARE NOT "Pin-ups!"

We have actual full-time jobs and careers. Some of us work in retail, sales, medical, journalism, and automotive.

Some are even mothers, and wives.

This is our way of giving back.

  2. Are the Kansas City Bettys a Burlesque Act?

    NO!

We resemble the women on the "Homefront" and the "USO Girls and Shows" of the 1940s WWII era. WE ARE NOT "Pin-ups!"

    We do not strip!

  3. How can I become a member of the Kansas City Bettys?

Just apply by sending us an email to [email protected]

Refer to the "Volunteer" Page for more info. too!

  4. I don't know how to dress or look like a 1940s Betty, can I still apply?

Yes, we will teach you everything. How to do your hair, make-up etc. We are a team, and no Betty is left behind!

  5. I don't know how to sing or dance, can I still be a member of the Kansas City Bettys?

Yes, of course! Everyone has different talents, and some of us are just not song birds, and that's ok. We work with you step by step to learn our dances (which is required, so you must be willing to put in the workouts and time to learn), but don't worry, many of the Bettys have left feet. Just keep a smile on your face and you'll be fine!

  6. Why do I have to be at least 21 years old to be a member of the Kansas City Bettys?

Because we do work some events where alcohol is being served and consumed.

How can I hire the Kansas City Bettys for my event? What are the requirements? What can the KC Bettys add to my event? What is the fee?

  1. How to hire the Kansas City Bettys?

If you would like to hire us for your event, send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

    -When/Time

    -Where

    -What

*It is in your best interest to submit an invitation to an event for us to attend at least four months in advance, and no more than 8 months in advance so we have time to prepare and are able to place your event on our schedule as well.

*Please include, Date, Time, Where (address location), and What the event is. Also, tell us if you would like us to perform or simply meet and greet guests and attendees. Note: Performances require a 25' x 25' space and/or stage, electricity, and a performance also requires more of our members to attend, thus not every event request for a performance can happen due to these factors. Also, tell us how long (15, 20, 30 minutes or 1 full hour) of a Betty Show would you like for your event if a performance is requested.

*February thru the middle of November is our "season" and busiest months of the year are May thru November, due to Memorial Day, Air Shows, and Veterans Day. We are on our "Holiday Break" mid-November thru the latter part of January the following year, and we do not schedule any events during this time.

  2. What requirements must my event meet for the Bettys to consider coming?

Anything that is honoring veterans and soldiers or has veterans, soldiers, and troops in attendance. We also help with fundraisers for soldiers and veterans.

WE DO NOT and WILL NOT ASSIST IN ANY POLITICAL CAMPAIGN.

Though, we have worked with politicians in the past, it is only to help raise money for our soldiers and veterans, or in honoring our veterans and soliders. We Do Not have any Political agenda, and will Not help anyone else's political agenda.

We support our Military and the sacrafices they and their families have made.

Note: Every event is voted on by the Kansas City Bettys to attend or not to attend. If your event was rejected, it may be because the event did not meet the criteria, but most of the time it is scheduling conflicts, so do not take it personal. Also, keep in mind that very rarely do we commit to an event during the "work week" since most all of our volunteer members have day jobs.

We always let you know if we will or will not attend far in advance.

How many events, performances, and meetings do the Kansas City Bettys have?

  1. How many events and performances do the Kansas City Bettys have?

On average we have about two events/performances a month.

Not all Bettys are required to work every single event, though we do encourage the Bettys to make as many as possible, especially New Bettys.

Some events require us to perform, some we just show up and help out by serving dinner, handing out programs, etc. Many times we show up to pose for pictures and add that "something special" to an event.

*February thru the middle of November is our "season" and busiest months of the year are May thru November, due to Memorial Day, Air Shows, and Veterans Day. We are on our "Holiday Break" mid-November thru the latter part of January the following year, and we do not schedule any events during this time.

  2. How many meetings and dance rehearsals a month does the Kansas City Bettys have?

We have one meeting a month, which is the Third Saturday of the month at 9:30am. Location is usually in Overland Park, Shawnee, or Olathe, Kansas.

Dance rehearsals vary depending on if a New Bettys or the Bettys in general are learning a new dance. If it's a New Betty then she'll probably have at least two or maybe more private rehearsals with a Senior Betty.

If it's all the Bettys or a certain group it depends on the group leader, or a Senior Betty. Some times we may meet twice a month just for Dance rehearsals several months prior to actually performing the piece.

Generally we have one Dance Rehearsal a couple of days before a performance.

October of 2009 was officially our first event.

  2. How was the Kansas City Bettys started?

It began with two of us. Mica Betty and Melinda Betty dressed up as "USO Girls" for a military event, and people got such a kick out of it, they asked us to come to another event , then another, then some ask us if we'd perform something, and it took off from there! We have been growing ever since!

Betty was a popular name for women in the 1940s and Kansas City is our beloved home.

  4. Where do you buy your seamed stockings?

Most of us get our seamed hosiery from Nordstroms dept. store at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, KS.
